The Stash
Here it all is. All the boxes and crates and totes and everythings of yarn.

From that distance it doesn’t look like so much, does it?

Back left – cone of some worsted weight cotton/rayon/linen that I can’t resist, even though I haven’t ever used it for anything. Next to it is some crazythin rayon that is probably doilyfodder once I get tired of my 44/2 linen. Both of these cones came from Upstairs Studio. Then a few skeins of Red Heart , two of Simply Soft (from the Michael’s “Fastest Knitter” prize) , and a lot of Cotton-Ease. Yeah, I went a bit crazy with the Cotton-Ease.

8 hanks of Classic Elite Sand and 5 hanks of Classic Elite Metro – these came from Knittyboard’s Mittenfarce. I don’t yet know what either will become; they’ve been laying low of late. Someday they’ll swim to the top of the stash and speak up. Any suggestions?

Most of the balls of #10 are just for tatting or insane intarsia – not enough left for doilies. The three beaded creatures in the center front are of Ana’s doing ; the balls of ecru crochet cotton are also from her. The big tube of 44/2 linen is a clone of what has been used for several doilies so far; at the time of the pictures, the other tube was in use. That small ball of purple #30 thread is what’s left from the doilybag, but I have another full ball that escaped the picture..

Most of a hank of Malabrigo lurking in the corner (Thanks Roxy!)
a hank of Harrisville Designs Flax & Wool
2 balls of Handpaintedyarn.com Ejido 160 in colour “Capricornio”
Six hanks of Pingouin Fleur De Laine (thanks Barbara at the SnB!)
An unknown amount (a lot!) of scratchy superwash wool. Right now I’m thinking it needs to live near the loom and become a rug.
Heap Big Manos from Ana. She’d started turning it into something but the yarn disagreed. Then I started to turn it into something and the yarn disagreed. (Notice the not-so-neatly wound balls.) I’ll turn the balls back into pretty hanks and wait for the yarn to tell me what it wants to be.

For reasons unknown to me, Ana loves me. This is her handspun – ain’t it gorgeous! – where’d that note go… 900 yards or 10.5 ounces of 14-16 wpi yarn, which is… sportweight or dk weight. Or so says this note I wrote down.

11 balls of Knitpicks Palette – originally thought to be a someday-sweater, fate now unknown. Maybe fair isle stockings, maybe not.
11 balls of Patons Cotton – from MacGyver! I know exactly what this will be – I can see it when I close my eyes – but will the needles ever produce what I picture?

This is a Mystery-Tank-in-Progress. I started it, uh, a year ago, and I’m getting around to getting around to picking it up again. The plan behind it is a bit strange – just a bit – but I do hope to finish it before the next Stash Flash.

Moose sock kit – I’m getting around to doing those soon, really!
Some lumpy cotton from Elizabeth – sent it about two years ago and quickly became a tank. I started to add sleeves to the tank but it, well, tanked.
Omega Sinfonia which really isn’t THAT loud. Leftover from Cozy, don’t know why it landed in this shot.
BABY MONKEY! Two balls from JacquieBean and the pink from Ana & Ceci. About the critter, well… he’s pretty much done except for the head. That’s the rest of the ball of fluff there. He’s quite cuddly – I need to finish him so I can properly cuddle him without risking losing stitches!

My feeble attempts at spinning. On the left , some of the earliest attempts. Right in front of the dark purple lumpiness is a little blob of white which is leftover from what I spun for socks. If I could find the socks again I would wear them with pride. The stuff to the right of that (pink, black, and purple/blue) is all pretty consistently sized. I don’t know what it’ll be yet – so far it’s just practice, practice, practice.
In back is some lumpy Araucania Nature Cotton my very first Secret Pal, identity unknown, gave me. It’s been in my stash unused for two years (sorry!) and soon it will head to a new home.

LACEWEIGHT! Why I left it all as one picture instead of splitting it up, we may never know.
1 1/4 balls of Skacel Merino Lace in black
1 ball of the same in navy
Leftovers of Skacel Merino Lace and Grignasco Regina in white, purple, burgundy, and taupe
A ball of Karabella lace mohair from Seven
A hank of Handpaintedyarn.com from Polarg – the other hank became the Tiger Swallowtail shawl
A ball and a half of blue Kidsilk Haze from Laura and a ball of green… Rowan Kid Mohair? Some other mohair/wool yarn that resembles KSH from Elisabeth
The orange ball is Blue Heron Rayon Flake I snagged from Karen last Stash Flash. I am Very Sad that I didn’t get around to using it before this Stash Flash. It’ll be gone before the next!
The Cone Of Zephyr. It’s turned into a Pacific Northwest Shawl and Laura made a Peacock Feathers. I started on Pi R Square and failed.
Some gorgeous silk from Shetha. (Two balls and a hank.) Again, I wish I’d used it sooner, but it’s so beautiful as it is, finding the perfect something for it is a challenge.
Nonokitty yarn that Zib sent. More “too pretty to knit” yarn.
A ball of 2/20 silk – I actually bought that one. About 1200 yards, I believe.
Four hanks of Knitpicks Shadow in Jewels.
An assortment of Knitpicks Colour Your Own – there’s an unmolested hank, a full hank connected to a false start, and a hank and a half split into three balls just barely visible in the bottom right.
And in the top right, about 12 ounces of ColourMartUK 1/14 cashmere. Most is still on the cones; some has been washed and wound.

Bit of a size comparison – from left to right -

From Glittrgirl, J&S cobweb weight yarn. Yes, I am reusing the picture from my blog instead of taking new pictures.
Mrs. Stranger yarn! As some of y’all remember, last September Laura recieved Heap Big Yarn. After she had her picks, she let my mom and I paw through it. Eventually Quite A Bit of it came home with us.

1300 yards of blue mohair and 2625 yards of cotton/rayon tape.

1625 yards of a cotton/rayon blend, 1300 yards of blue shiny stuff, and gourd knows how much more cotton/rayon

As you can see, I started to turn it into a sweater. (unmolested pile) The spiders seemed like a good idea when I started; last time I tried it on I stared blankly and wondered if I would ever actually wear it. So now it’s in UFO-land until I decide. If I decide to keep on with the spiders, I’ll have to figure out the best way to continue the pattern short rows – fairly close fitting and need some ease for my boobages.

The latest addition, these had been picked out by one of the other SnB members. When she learned that she’d be moving soon, she brought the yarn back to the SnB rather than have to move out of state with it. The blue is 50% rayon / 15% mohair / 35% acrylic and the other stuff is pure petroyarn with a shiny thread around it.
Oh, I give up.

These are pretty much all oddballs, whether they be leftovers or “I want to try that yarn!” purchases or impulse buys or random gifts or gourd knows what. The yarns do not naturally live like this; they just landed together in the photo shoot. When I put them away, I split them into four main groups – things I need to fiddle with soon (including the red merino failed moebius) , cottons (filled that laundry basket full!) , wools (not so much), and things I don’t want to deal with for a long time. Those landed in a box which formed the foundation of my new stash stack.
And the most recent additions.

These have joined the stash since the official photo shoot. From left to right –
Laceweight wool from HPY/sanfelipeysantiago in “Blue Surf”
Yarntopia colourway of Fleece Artist Lace Silk
Bulky merino from HPY/sanfelipeysantiago in “Marine”
I bought 10.5 ounces of each of the wools from eBay – that’s three hanks of each. The laceweight was bought with the Inky Dinky Spider Stole in mind and the bulky merino might find a place in the afghan-in-planning. Both are of course subject to change if a different shawl strikes my fancy or I decided that I really don’t need an afghan made of bulky wool. The silk is turning into a shawl for Yarntopia – I have four hanks total and have no idea how many will be used.
So that’s the stash. Looking over all of that kinda leaves me speechless. Well – if you want some Mrs. Stranger yarn or Cotton-Ease, think up something that Laura or I might like….
